Dwarves - The Broken Ones

For centuries the Dwarves lived in relative seclusion in their mountain and hill homes. The Hill dwarves eventually descended into the modern cities of the humans in order to better their lives. These new “City Dwarves” quickly discovered the dangers of such close quarters living, plague and disease caused most City Dwarves to adopt a much cleaner lifestyle including shaving their beards. Mountain Dwarves (who later became known as Deep Dwarves) have never seen eye-to-eye with humans and despise the City Dwarves. When the great city was opened, a Guild of City Dwarves came with the humans to help with the construction while a clan of Mountain Dwarves came to reclaim the ancient underground city network that once belonged to the Ancestral King Deftmont. The ruins they found were completely infested with dangerous creatures. Unfortunately, failure compounded on tragedy when the gates of the city closed permanently. [Expand This]

Elves - The United Ones

Elves hail from three distinct ethnic backgrounds, High Elves, Drow Elves, and Highland Elves. That said, Elves are notable for an ancient pact that brought the three groups together as a unified whole. Elves have technically an indefinite lifespan, however once they procreate (with any race) they begin to age and die after about a hundred years. The Elves came to the secure zone in search of an artifact from their people's history that was stolen from them by the Human Empire that once ruled from the now-secure zone. The group that arrived in the city intended to only search for a brief period. Unfortunately, when the gates of the city closed permanently, the newly minted colonists were trapped. Four hundred years later Elves find themselves suffering in the squalor of the lower city. Elves are close knit and consider one another to be family. The Elves formed a mafia a half decade into their imprisonment. Only a select few still remember why they arrived in the city in the first place, fewer still have the will to continue their sacred search.[Expand This]

Humans - The Abundant Ones

The Human race, no longer the youngest race in the world, but also the most prevalent. Humans live no longer than one hundred years and reproduce heterosexually. Humans come from a variety of cultures, ethnicities and backgrounds. Humans are unique in this setting as they are split between the lofty Center City and the impoverished Lower City. Some humans live in the city willingly, some do not. Either way, racial tensions between Humans and psions in particular is quite common. Humans have mixed relations with the other races and it largely depends on their upbringing. Humans are adaptable and skillful and can be at home almost anywhere.[Expand This]

Orc Kind - The Wandering Ones
Orcs have been the natural allies of the Humans for eons. Living around the same length of time as their softer skinned brethren, they have forged their way through the world as a nomadic people settling in cities only rarely. Opportunistic and deeply religious, orcs arrived in the Secure Zone simply searching for a place to live and to take advantage of the need for skilled workers in the city. They showed little concern when the city itself closed completely. For a brief period they stayed relatively close together before spreading out into pockets all over the city. Despite growing up in different areas, Orcs are always receptive of one another and always happy to do business with any race. Psions - The Downtrodden Ones
[description of race]
Psions of the current age are a shadow of their former selves. Very few psions still practice the ‘disciplines’ (psionic powers/techniques) and most can at best lift light objects and sense surface emotions from their close friends and family. On top of this, psions are susceptible to ‘catapsi fields’ fields of energy generated by devices invented by the federation. Catapsi fields cause severe headaches, nausea, vertigo and render a psion unable to draw on their powers. (More info on Psionic Powers in the magic and psionics section).

Psions and Sexuality:
Psions have always had a small population as well as different views on sexuality and procreation. Psions can breed with any race and a person born from this union will always be a pure blooded psion, though they may often inherit physical traits from their non-psion parent. Psions very rarely marry, as their universal law edicts that a psion marries for life, even should they become a widow/er they will never marry again. Instead at most they form bonds called “kvatch” which means “beloved”. A psion often takes several “kvatch” (sometimes simultaneously) over their lifetime and throughout the relationship they remain loyal to them. More commonly, psions simply have numerous sexual/romantic partners. This is considered normal behavior for their species and has resulted in a great deal of disgust from humans and other races. The Psionic Noble Families
All psions trace their heritage to one of the noble families. Though many have mixed blood, the traits of one particular noble family will often dominate over the others.
  • Valdyme - Wiped out in a raid, only a small fragment family remains. They are considered to be ‘closest to the Psychic Lord’ in terms of ability. (playing a member of this family is restricted)
  • Hardy - Politically inclined, talented Metacreatives (shapers) always at odds with the O’Haire family.
  • O’Haire - Militaristic, talented psychokinetics (blasters) always at odds with the Hardy Family.
  • Tomko - Pacifists, talented Telepaths, well known for mediating between the O’Haire and Hardy clans.
  • Rison - Assassins and alchemists, talented poisoners and psychometabolists (manipulating organic matter). Loyal to the Hardy family.
  • Drusus - Scholars and engineers, talented inventors and clairsentients (seers, oracles). Loyal to the O’haire Family.
  • Lotus - Religious and Arcane, talented wizards who practice arcane magic along with the psionic disciplines. Loyal to the Hardy family.
  • Tanner - Trackers and hunters, talented rogues who use psychoportation (control over space/time) to move quickly and pursue prey. Loyal to the O’Haire family.

Raemuzel - The Ancient Ones
Mamoreptiles hailing from the Xernian Imperial Directorate. Raemuzel have a thousand year lifespan. They are the oldest race in the world, they are born unable to comprehend mysticism and hold everything to logic and reason. Raemuzel procreate heterosexually but maintain a homosexual culture. Originally it was simply encouraged because of overpopulation in their homeland but eventually it simply became the cultural norm. Their Homeland, Xern, is the most advanced nation in the world. Lanky with smooth skin and forhead/eyebrow ridges. They have slitted eyes and forked tongues. Raemuzel are notably xenophobic in their homeland but Secure Zone natives are rather open-minded. Though they still keep to themselves in a section of the city called “Little Xern” It should be noted that Raemuzel in the secure zone have deviated in some ways from their homeland’s culture.[Expand This]
